New You Challenge Wrap-up

Hey Everyone! I wanted to to let you know about how my End of Challenge went and my results! At the end of the 6 week challenge (last week) I had to complete: 200m jog 21 squats 21 sit-ups 21 kettlebell swings (15lbs) 15 squats 15 sit-ups 15 kettlebell swings 9 squats 9 sit-ups 9 kettlebell swings 200m jog This is the same workout I did the first day of the challenge. It took me 25 mins and 37 secs. Honestly it was not pretty. There was hyperventilating, crying and one time I even left the workout space. Coach David was amazing though! He talked me through the whole thing,  motivating me to not give up on myself. The whole class actually jogged my last 200m with me (again!) even though they had already finished up way before me. Fast forward to last week,  I was a little surprised because they actually had me do the End of Challenge workout that Thursday instead of Friday. I had not been in the gym physically all that week due to having a serious case of pin...

Our first match-up was about two weeks ago. (Click Here to see how those competitors fared)  I had such a great time with the challenge and the readers seemed to enjoy it as well. High-Fiber Cereal GOES Gluten-Free!!

Image
While visiting my gastroenterologist at the end of January, he recommended increasing my fiber to combat my IBS symptoms. In order to avoid the side effects of upping my fiber intake too quickly, he suggested eating one bowl of a high fiber cereal each day. I decided to go with Kashi GO LEAN Honey Almond Flax Crunch cereal which packs a whopping 8 grams of fiber per serving. I’d enjoy it with unsweetened almond milk and a tbsp of local honey*. However, going back gluten-free definitely threw a wrench into my routine.   At first I thought it was impossible. I mean the term gluten-free high-fiber cereal is sort of an oxymoron. But my plucky determination carried me all the way to my local grocery store’s cereal aisle. In a coffee mug for on-the-go ease Every high fiber cereal listed wheat within the first 3 ingredients. I was about to settle on plain Original Cheerios (3 grams of fiber per serving) when I stumbled upon the Organic/Healthy food aisle. T...

Review: Hemalayaa Bollywood Booty Workout DVD

Image
I bought this DVD in a multi-pack, that included some more of Hemalayaa's workout, about a year ago. I have tried the other two DVD workouts (once!) but never this one… Until now! I used to have a horrible habit of buying workout videos and then half-way through: I am on the couch watching the people on the screen finish the workout. I am very pleased to say that I actually finished this one! It has an option to complete the mini workouts separately but in the end I just kept going. It was that much fun!!! Afterwards, I was like there is no way that this workout was 45 minutes. This Bollywood- inspired dance workout was a mixture of bhangra and belly dance. But with of its bouncing around it is somehow remains a low-impact workout (there one move where there is hopping involved but Hemalayaa insists several times not to do this move if you have knee problems). I wore my coin (hip) scarf to get into the mind-frame of a Bollywood Workout Princess.  Wearing the scarf, hel...
